Teaching and Learning Outside
"I hear and I forget
I see and I remember
I do and I understand"
Confucius (551 –
479 B.C.)
At Windmill Primary School, we strongly believe in the importance of
Outdoor Learning for all children from Nursery through to Year 6 and are committed to giving all pupils the opportunity to learn
in the outdoor environment.
The outdoor environment has massive
potential for providing learning opportunities and, here at Windmill, we are
extremely fortunate to be set in large grounds, surrounded by an environment
rich in opportunities to enhance our educational provision.
Children at Windmill are given a wide
range of opportunities to work outdoors, whether that be within the market
garden where they are able to grow their own fruit and vegetables or in the
wildlife area where they are supported through their learning by expert instructors, who have a wealth of knowledge and
experience to deepen children’s understanding of the environment in which they
live in an exciting and enjoyable way.
