We want every child to enjoy and succeed in mathematics. We want learners to think about maths beyond what is tested in national examinations and to be equipped with an understanding of mathematics that will be relevant and useful in their future studies and/or in the world of work.

That's why we have chosen to subscribe to the Mathematics Mastery programme, which has been designed on principles to provide learners with a deep conceptual understanding of mathematical principles, the ability to confidently communicate in precise mathematical language, while becoming mathematical thinkers.

The programme can be delivered with confidence in the knowledge that if a student understands the core principles, they will be able to remember more and do more maths, in whatever context they encounter it.

The roll-out of our Mathematics Mastery programme means that all teachers from Reception to Year 3 are fully trained and teach using Mathematics Mastery principles and resources on a daily basis.  Pupils currently in Year 3 have been learning and practising according in this way since they started school with us and will continue in this way through to the end of Year 6.

For children in Years 4 to 6, the principles and structure of a Mathematics Mastery approach are also used, as well as using White Rose Maths materials to apply new knowledge in reasoning and problem solving ativities.

All classes have a daily Maths Meeting, in which the children revisit and practise key concepts to make progress towards the planned endpoints and develop fluency.
