We want every child to enjoy and succeed in mathematics. We want learners to think about maths beyond what is tested in national examinations and to be equipped with an understanding of mathematics that will be relevant and useful in their future studies and/or in the world of work.
That's why we subscribe to the Mathematics Mastery programme, which has been designed on principles to provide learners with a deep conceptual understanding of mathematical principles, the ability to confidently communicate in precise mathematical language, while becoming mathematical thinkers.
The programme is delivered with confidence in the knowledge that if a student understands the core principles, they will be able to remember more and do more maths, in whatever context they encounter it.
The roll-out of our Mathematics Mastery programme began in 2018 so all teachers are fully trained and teach using Mathematics Mastery principles and resources on a daily basis. All pupils have been learning and practising using this mastery approach since they started school with us and continue with it through to the end of Year 6.
All classes have a daily Maths Meeting, in which the children revisit and practise key concepts to make progress towards the planned endpoints and develop fluency.
